A Seat at the Table

We talk a lot about corporate responsibility in the public relations world.
A big part of that is diversity, equity and inclusion.
But it’s not enough to simply care about diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Thankfully, business leaders are realizing that when DEI is a priority, it makes real changes in all aspects of an organization.
What matters is giving those diverse voices a seat at the table. That is what allows for significant progress in a company.
It’s known that when people feel valued, they work harder and are happier doing it. Not only that, but it helps a business succeed in other ways. The employees thrive and so does the organization.
Having multiple different perspectives helps businesses attract a wider audience and create content that appeals to many without overlooking or neglecting some.
I’m almost positive that Burger King’s infamous International Women’s Day “women belong in the kitchen” tweet, could have been avoided by having some more ladies in the room.
Jokes aside, diversity and inclusion efforts are essential to corporate social responsibility and it’s time companies start making conscious changes.
They should do it because it’s linked to higher financial performance, but also because it matters in building a better, more equitable world.
